Africa Seeks to Lead by Example After U.S. Climate Withdrawal (08 Sep)
At the second Africa Climate Summit in Ethiopia, leaders vowed to make Africa a model for “green industrialisation.” PM Abiy Ahmed proposed a continent-wide innovation drive to deliver 1,000 climate solutions by 2030. Kenya’s President William Ruto said African lenders—including AfDB, Afreximbank, Ecobank, and KCB—will mobilize up to $100B for clean energy. Despite low emissions, Africa faces severe climate impacts and receives only ~1% of global climate finance; leaders demanded fair, predictable funding. With Washington stepping back, Ruto warned broken commitments undermine cooperation, and said Africa will lead by example.
