Côte d’Ivoire Bars Gbagbo, Thiam from 2025 Presidential Ballot
By African Bulletin on September 9, 2025
The Constitutional Council excluded ex-president Laurent Gbagbo and PDCI leader Tidjane Thiam from the Oct. 25 election for lacking voter-roll status. Five candidates remain as President Alassane Ouattara seeks a fourth term. Thiam’s removal stems from nationality issues; Gbagbo’s from a criminal conviction. The council said elector status is required.
